Michael Brotherton, Chaplain for RTTW 2011

Reverend Michael Brotherton MBE

The Reverend Michael Brotherton MBE, BD was born on 6 July 1956, in Morpeth, Northumberland. He was educated at Chesterton Boy’s School, Cambridge and later graduated in Divinity at Aberystwyth College, University of Wales.

He joined the Royal Navy as a Chaplain in 1984 and served on many ships until, in 1987, he became Assistant Chaplain to HMS Drake. His arrival on board HMS Ark Royal in 1993 will always be remembered as he boarded dressed as Charlie Chaplin. It was while he was serving on Ark Royal that he was awarded the MBE for his pastoral work to all ranks within the Royal Navy.

In 1995, he was appointed to HMS Collingwood and he is currently Chaplain to HMS Ocean.

Throughout his time in the Navy, Michael has organised fun runs, scooter runs and swimming events to raise money for many good causes.

Michael enjoys music and plays the pipe and piano, he also enjoys showing his beautiful scooters around the country.
