Wednesday
We gather together one day of the year
We clean up our bikes and don on our gear
This is not for the ride we prepare for today
It's for the honour and glory of those passed away

So we ride forth with our heads held high
To remember our brothers of days gone by
We know not their names Or from whence they came
Written by Lillian Ford aged 91
Whose Husband served in the Navy

But we stand as one and together we pray
To give our thanks for our freedom that we enjoy today
This is our remembrance day
And what we do in our own special way.

The correspondence below was received after the RTTW2 event.

A big THANK YOU to you and all the helpers/marshals who made it such an impressive day out on Saturday. It was so well organised and such an amazing turn-out. The service was simple and emotive and the fly-over by the single spitfire memorial.
We rode up from North Devon on Friday and on the way stopped at Wootton Bassett to pay our respects to two soldiers who were being repatriated - a heart-wrenching occasion. That, together with RTTW, gave us the opportunity to remember the sacrifices made on our behalf by others.
This year, our annual club tour took us to Normandy - we actually landed at Caen on D-Day, 65th anniversary -so again we took the opportunity to pay our respects to those who had given so much to ensure our future.
I was so proud to be a part of RTTW on Saturday. The whole event does you great honour. Once again, thanks to all involved with the exceptional organisation. Looking forward to next year already. Can you surpass this year’s numbers? I think you will have no problem going from strength to strength.
That being the case could there be perhaps more eating facilities provided on the day? The NMA cafe was excellent but jam-packed and would certainly have trouble coping with increased numbers. Perhaps an extra-long outside BBQ providing simple burgers/hot-dogs and a bottle of water/canned drinks?
kind regards

I Rode To The Wall yesterday from Salisbury, Wilts. I was truly amazed and humbled by the experience. I know manynames carved on The Wall, all of whom died in aircraft accidents during the Cold War years. I can think of no better way of celebrating their lives.
Thank you forfounding what is a great event. I just know it will grow and grow due to the efforts of all your committee members, the marshals and many helpers who made it happen. My sincere thanks go to them; as I left yesterday, I singled out a female marshal and told her she was the representative of all the marshals I wished to thank for all of their efforts.
Sorry I was on a BMW not a Harley!
I am proud to wear RTTW 2009.

I am a coach driver and yesterday I took a group to Drayton Manor. I knew nothing of RTTW until I was swamped by big ol Hogs!! I took a few pics during the day and thought you might like to see them. I have been involved in various types of parade and the only downside is that you only get too see it from one viewpoint.

Just a quick mail to say I did manage to attend on the 10th October, what a fantastic experience. To see so many like minded people both on the event and lining the route was humbling, I hope that the NMA continues to receive such well deserved support. As pointed out by one person I heard on Saturday, the memorial is magnificent, it is only sad that there is space for a substantial amount of additional names – if only that was it.Once again thank you for the opportunity to give a little back if (when) it runs next year I will do my utmost to attend again.

Just to say a big thank you for all the excellent workyou and your committee have carried out for the RTTW events.
Your website and supporting communication network is top notch - very professional .
The organisation at Drayton Manor Park was very good with an excellent rideto the Arboretum - the Road Captains did a superb job of controlling the ride and maintaining good relationships with other road users and the general public .
The service itself was very moving , with all of the speechesvery appropriate to the day .
On a personal note the event gave me an opportunity to focus on the death of my Grandfather inWorld War1.
Look forward to RTTW3!!

I would just like to thank everyone involved with the RTTW.
It was a very moving experience and one that will be repeated for as long as I able to ride my bike.
Well done to everyone.

I just want to say a big thank you to you and everyone involved in Saturdays rttw. It was so well organized before, during and after the event, you all did a brilliant job.
It was the first time I have ever done anything like that and I found it so emotional with the camaraderie of the bikers the public support along the route, and what did it for me was seeing an old veteran who must have been in his 80s in a wheelchair with a chest full of medals in a lay by with his family who had obviously brought him along to see the support I just cried my eyes up, it’s a wonder I didn’t drown in my helmet!!!!!
I don’t know what you will do next year if it doubles in size, but I look forward to doing the ride again.
Well done.

Sandra

Just have to say how deeply proud and honoured I was to attend the
RTTW at the weekend as pillion with my Partner Lachlan Mackintosh. The
organisation was excellent especially en route from the start off point to
our destination. Indeed a day to be remembered and cherished forever. We
shall return next year and bring more biker friends to support this
outstanding cause. A sincere heartfelt THANK YOU to all concerned.

Recently I registered and rode on the 2009 RTTW. I was informed of the RTTW by a colleague who's son is currently serving with the Guards in Afgan'.
I was amazed, proud and fortunate to have participated in such a turn out with fellow bikers for such a worthy cause. So many times conflicts go on around the world involving our forces and the general public don't have a clue. There is never enough support for the services, either whilst serving or once retired through age or injury (especially lacking in support is the government).
I would just like to say a big thank you to you and all those who assisted with this years RTTW. I shall await next years RTTW with great anticipation.
Thanks

Geoff Dover

Great result of all your hard work during the year. My congratulations to you all on the Committee and the others who also helped in the background. A superb effort and I'm already looking forward to RTTW 2010.
Please find attached some of the many photo's I took on the day. Including the Help For Heroes flag which I had the honour of carrying. Incidentally, it was my wife's 1st time and she was totally overwhelmed by it all. She confessed she had no idea before hand just how enormous the whole thing was going to be.
Sincere regards,

Gareth (The Toastmaster)

It was our first time and we were very impressed with the organisation, well done to everyone concerned.
I hope you raised more than expected and we will be telling more people about it for next year.
regards

Richard

I would like to take the opportunity to send to you, all your committee colleagues, and especially all your supporters, who put their hands in there pockets, and created a very very special and memberable day, our most heartfelt thanks.
I and my wife Teresa went to the memorial on Saturday, to see the new royal air force monument just opened.
We had heard a whisper about some bikers were going to pay respects there, however, never did we expect to be with such respectful and beautiful a bunch of people as we ended up with.
It is a total credit to you all,the turnout of every bike, the way respect was shown to ,what I am sure you will agree is a fitting, beautiful, and poignant place for people to contemplate the memorys of there loved one,s, that have paid the ultimate price.THANKYOU

We rode from France.
Very well done to you and all your team, your vision has had such an impact on so many, and will continue to grow, a lamp of remembrance that you yourself have lit, will guide thousands in years to come.
We look forward to riding with you all in the years ahead.
Very best wishes
